Introducing Our 2019 Coaches & More Exciting News

Happy New Years to everyone. We have some exciting news to share!

Synchro Australia is now officially Artistic Swimming Australia Inc.

You may have been noticing some changes in the “Synchro” world as organisations across the globe are adjusting their names to align with the constitutional changes made by FINA in 2017. The long-known name of Synchronized Swimming has been officially changed to Artistic Swimming during the congressional meeting in Budapest last year with 176 federations present.

“While diving events are synchronised, we felt that artistic is a more appropriate name for this event" FINA vice-president Sam Ramsamy explained after the name change announcement was made. "It brings it into line with artistic gymnastics and will be better understood by the public and the media. “This should help us rebrand and enhance its popularity.”

The motivation was to clear the confusion and streamline the image of the sport. Quite often the general public would question the reasoning behind the original name because when the sport is performed the athletes are not always synchronized to each other, but rather synchronised to the music. This shift is a positive step to help promote the sport on the world stage and work towards continuing to develop the respect that artistic swimming truly deserves.

Artistic Swimming Australia is proud to be part of the encouraging shift towards a bright future for the sport across the world. The website and email addresses will be updated shortly, keep an eye out.
